My Reviews
Although this is not a book I would pick up, I\'m glad the book was suggested. It is the true untold story of the writing of the Little House books A major theme is the troubled collaboration of Rose Wilder Rose and her mother, Laura Ingalls Wilder had that produced the Little House series of books about pioneer life. Behind the scenes, Rose turned her mother\'s stories into best selling books, The collaboration was concealed from their agent, editor, reviewers and readers. I found the book well researched.
This little known chapter in American history was shocking and informative. The hope that children would be transported by train, to good homes, did not always result in happy childhoods for many. Two stories, one of an 81 year old train rider and a 17 year old foster child emerge. Feelings of abandonment, abuse, fear, insecurity, uncertainty emotionally stunt their growth. Eventually these 2 main characters, Vivian and Molly, meet and they begin to heal and begin to experience closure. By opening up to one another they soften old fears and memories. They begin to heal from within.
The graphic sexuality in the first half of this book was
too graphic for me and boring, This couple happened to be gay but I would feel the same if the
characters were heterosexual. The second half of the book was much more engaging although the ending was disappointing. Some of the wording seemed awkward.
