Incredible author who's writing makes for the best discussion questions

As a book club, this was our first dabble in Jodi Picoult's world. We were not dissapointed. My Sister's Keeper beyond the average story and Jodi leads us into a world that is so realistic, you feel you could know these people. This could be your town.

In My Sister's Keeper you will find Anna who after many years of going to the hospital to give white blood cells to her sister to keep her alive, and now looks like it will be a kidney - has said enough. Anna at 12 years old, finds herself a lawyer and decides to sue her parents for the rights to her own body.

Amazingly real I thik we felt emotions all over the board. Jodi Picoult has become a book club staple after this read.

A book that hits a bit too close to home

We read this as a book club and while I enjoyed the reality of the issue in the book, most of the club found it disturbing.

We Need To Talk About Kevin is a story that reflects a lot of the pieces of the Columbine School, except it is not Columbine... and it is fiction. However, this strong book made for a dark, disturbing read that left the club with a feeling that it was a bit too real.

That was exactly what I liked about it.

The Other Boleyn Girl by Philippa Gregory

Interesting, Dramatic, Informative
Well, off with my head - this is a great book!

The Other Boleyn Girl review was the best we have had in awhile! All 12 of us unanimously gave it our highest rating of 5. Philippa Gregory is an excellent write and captivated the reader (me) from the first page.
What a fascinating portrayal of Henry VIII and the happening of Court.

An average read....

This book was an average read. OUr group found it to drag with all the photography terms... flash backs, flash forwards....
The story line was good and it did give you a sense of wanting to finish if for no other reason than to know what happened to Emma.
I think the best part of this whole experience was the review. We had great conversations about missing children in the real world and how the parents have reacted - to thsoe whose children were found (Elizabeth Smart) to those who never had closure (Jacob Wetterling). We also discussed how people grieve in diffrent ways.

Nineteen Minutes brings back the past and ponders the future

Our book club reviewed this book last night and we had a great discussion over this book. While the book spurred mixed feelings - we all agree that Jodi Picoult is an amazing writer and can really put a twist on current issues that make the reader view things differently as well.

Our discussion led to memories of what it was like to not fit in at school - moments when we were were insecure in our social standing no matter where we landed on the popularity scale. We were also able to discuss the current school issues and hear stories from members from one whose son was actually on a school hit list by an angry child, to another whose son hates school and how to help him through it.

Nineteen Minutes is an excellent read for book clubs and our group recommends the read.
