My Reviews
Stunning description of how war and all its ripple effects impacted the life of young girl growing up in rural Vietnam. A beautifully written account of those caught in the middle and a testament to survival and reliance.
At first I wasn't sure I would like this book, but it hooked me quickly. it made me think a lot of the seemingly small decisions we make in life or 'forks in the road' that open up new possibilities and life paths
Interesting exploration of how divorce impacts two families and all of the consequences. Not my favorite if Ann Patchett's work, but enjoyable.
This book meandered around a lot, and I found it difficult to figure out where it was going at times. Character development was not deep. It is based on the 'Bosnian Butcher' and there is one horrific scene that nearly ended my reading. Dark and depressing.
This was a great story and marked by interesting characters and really good writing. I gained a lot of historical information that was beautifully imbedded in the writing. A very positive message pervaded the novel and it was sad to say goodbye to the characters.
