My Reviews
Our book club received this book very well...average rating was an 8 (out of 10). The discussion was interesting because the characters in the book and their relationships gave us a lot to talk about. Also we talked a lot about JK Rowling. The only negative comment I heard was the book was a little too long for a group that meets monthly .
Our group enjoyed this book. We learned a lot about the training process for police dogs and their owners. The author did a wonderful job conveying Maggie's thoughts to the reader.
Our book discussion group loved it! Brilliant writing by the author. Much to talk about.
Our book club was split between a few who really liked this book and many who strongly disliked it. Overall the group felt the characters were well developed but that they were very unlikeable. They felt Stephen Drew was a creepy minister and only did the right thing out of guilt. Most also felt Heather (the Angel lady) was annoying. I personally liked the book and was surprised that so many didn\\\\\\\'t enjoy it. However this difference of opinions within the group lead to an interesting discussion and I don\\\\\\\'t regret choosing this book as a reading choice for this very reason. There are some graphic descriptions of spousal abuse contained in the book that some found disturbing and we talked at length about domestic violence and members of the group shared some of their personal experiences.
Wonderful multi-layered story set in 1860s Canada. A trapper has been murdered in a tiny settlement and we are taken on an exciting journey searching for the killer. The environment is brutally harsh, yet we feel the beauty and lure of the country. I found the descriptions of the landscape especially vivid and breathtaking. Loved the character of Mrs. Ross. It took me a while but I finally figured out her first name.
A detailed courtroom drama. The reader\'s perspective on Sam\'s guilt or innocence changes from chapter to chapter. I cried while reading the last page!
Excellent read...could not put it down! Some people believe the cause of violence committed by children is because \"some people just are born evil\" but this author makes a strong case that these crimes are more likely rooted in poverty, abuse and parental abandonment. Very REAL and totally SCARY!
Enjoyed the book very much.
Could not put this one down...excellent!
good read...very intense
Loved it!
What a wonderful book! Beautiful descriptions of art and birds. Well developed multi-layered characters. The mystery of 3 lost paintings. What more could you want. Loved it!
A short simple story...until it isn't. Enjoyed the twists and turns. The honesty of the narrator gave the story weight. Enjoyed it very much.
Could not put it down! Powerful, thought provoking and suspenseful. Made me smile, laugh, and cry. Loved it!
Great read! Read the entire book in one sitting because I could not put it down!
