My Reviews
Petken’s The Guardian of Secrets: And Her Deadly Pact is an incredible read. The author starts off with colorful descriptive sentences as she takes you into the lives of Celia and her husband, Joseph Dobbs. To say their lives, after a brief six months of marriage was remarkable, is an understatement. The things that take place in this story was so remarkable, it left me speechless. I was upset with Celia one minute and sorry for her the next. The book evokes so many different emotions in me, when I was done, I felt like an acorn in a wind storm, being buffeted all over the place. My emotions span the gamut... despair, anger, triumph, you name it, and I experienced it while reading this book. I can’t make up my mind what genre this book falls under; it’s an excellent blend of several. Well done!
Great read, original and funny. P. J. Fiala has written a wonderful, fun, summer read that I really enjoyed. If you love stories about real people, falling in love and working at it, I know you'll like this book. There’s also some steamy sex scenes in there also, but it’s a heartfelt story about the life of a Veteran.
Very interesting read with a bit of suspense, mystery and adventure. Brilliantly written.
Reading P.J. Fiala’s Dog Days of Summer was a pleasure. I never ridden a bike in my life but the author painted such a vivid picture of the bikers, their close knit group, the dialogue was authentic, the romance was hot and passionate… Gosh, even the names of the characters were on point. And Dog, what a character, and to pair him up with the shy-retiring, Joci was a bold move by the author. The conflict with LuAnn brought it all home for me. Excellent read!
This book is a nail-biter. Stefan writes about a subject that has a lot of emotional pull for most people; however, not content to leave it there, the author throws in several sub-plots: an adopted daughter, Amanda finding her birth mother, Jean Campbell, then discovering she not only had a twin brother and a half-brother, her mother was filthy rich. The excitement is just beginning, there’s some sort of stolen identity, lot of shooting, murders, hot sex, and finally, the happy ever after. This book has it all. Prepare to be gripping your seat as you buckle in for the ride. Brilliant!
I couldn’t wait to sink my teeth into this book. I’ve read several books by this author, and each one is better than the last or maybe it’s just me. This book takes you to the island of St. Lucia in the Caribbean where the author got into the voodoo and black arts practiced on the island. I love the characters, Lange, Rupert and of course, Jean Louis, the sorcerer. Lots of steamy passionate scenes, some were even a bit scary. Excellent read for lovers of the paranormal.
This book is a page turner about the ramifications of arranged marriage. Mercy’s Grandparents promised her in marriage to 'Big Joe' when she turns eighteen. Mercy was not a willing participant, and “Big Joe” was having no of it. The author builds up the suspense as the situation between Big Joe and Mercy accelerates into a full scale confrontation. This is the second book I had the chance to read by the author and I must admit, Jana Petken has done a wonderful job presenting her information to the reader with enough suspense to keep the story interesting and the pace moving. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
"One Night in Bangkok" by Gale Stanley, is a steamy exotic gay romance. I liked how the author developed the characters. Stanley has chosen two characters with bite whose romance is not easy. They had to first overcome their personal problems before their relationship can bloom and flourish. Beautifully done!
These are eight exotic stories each with a different spin on exotica. There’s BDSM, menage, paranormal—something for everyone. If short intense erotica is your thing, then these eight stories will not disappoint you.
Spilt Milk, collection of short stories by D. K. Cassidy is quite appropriately titled. I was not sure what to expect with a title like that. I thought it was a children’s book; but far from it. Although, all the characters in the stories have a certain child-like quality about them, whether real or imagined, the underlying theme in this collection of short stories is psychological dependency in some form or other. The author did a great job of keeping the reader turning the pages in this book of flawed characters—almost addictive in the compulsion to keep reading to find out, what’s next? Great creative writing.
This is the first spy thriller fiction I have ever read. The story was told through the perspective of Kamal Khan, the protagonist of the story. Khan played many roles in this fast-paced thriller, as brutal realities of Pakistani society where political intrigues at national level and diplomatic games at ground level were common place. This novel by Khalid Muhammad is takes the reader into the heart of things in Pakistan. Great read!
This was a cute, fun book. I can’t say, as some of the other reviewers said, that it took me back to my childhood, but it sure took me back. Being a girl, I can’t relate, but for the way things were, it was on target. The simplicity of life, the enjoyment in the little things, those were the days my friend. Take a trip down memory lane with James Gordon.
Tullis has written a feel good story about love, relationship, religion, and, as the name indicates, Christmas. The town of Smoothville seems real, the larger than life characters remind me of some of my own family, and the Christmas party was the cherry on the cake. The author was able to infuse the true feeling of Christmas into this poignant, entertaining novella.
Just the name LaCasse and you know what to expect, high heat and lots of drama. In this turn of events, the last of this series focuses on Franchesca, a sister to the brothers we have grown to love and lust after. The story begins with a fall, and not necessarily a fall in love situation. Damon happens to be at the right place at the right time to meet the girl that would forever change his life.
Franchesca feels the pull of attraction with the first touch between her and Damon, she tries to resist it, but is unsuccessful. Ju Ephraime keeps the reader on the edge of their seat with steamy scenes and pulsating dramatic tension. I was sad to see the end of this series; it kept me always wanting more. It now owns a permanent place on my book shelves… addictive.
This story started off at a fast pace, which the author kept throughout. The main characters fall in love immediately but sometimes work gets in the way, Dominic with his horoscope writing and Cassie with her art. The steamy relationship between Dominic and Cassie was well written with the author’s eloquent style. Great read! Looking forward to the next one.
Stevie Turner’s The Porn Detective is a study of lives affected by abduction. When Dr. Beth Nichols is released from a basement after ten years of captivity she and her children are not the only ones forced to reassess 'life on the outside' as they adjust to freedom. Turner breaks the book up into separate sections, allowing each character its own voice as the true horror of their lives unfolds. The author does a remarkable job bringing the story to a climatic conclusion.
In Liberty or Death, David Cook recreates 1798 Ireland, with the hero, Lorn’s mission to bring Colonel Black, a sadistic monster, to justice. Fast paced and bloody, this is an adventure that is not for the faint hearted. David has a wonderful style and “Liberty or Death” left this reader wanting much more of his writing. Brilliantly characterized, the opinions of both sides in the hostilities were depicted, as the conflicted loyalties these men face fighting against their very heritage. Cook is a powerful new voice in historical genre.
Detective Chief Inspector Dodd thinks the hunt was over for the serial killer who has been plaguing his watch, when he finds the suspect found hanging from the rafters, but then more victims were found. What does it mean, and why do dead victims seem to show up everywhere the family goes. Was he wrong about the suspect all along? The reader is kept in suspense as the plot unfolds. Even Detective Inspector Dodd becomes a suspect. This is a fast-paced read, and the suspense will not disappoint.
Great entertaining read. This book is different from your usual romance novel because the author created an environment for the characters that was believable and true to life. It read almost like a non-fiction. The handsome husband, three daughters, in other words, the idyllic life, but is it? Into this perfect scenario walks the flirtatious new doctor. Oh what a tangled web we weave!
The author creates a setting that’s to die for, Cornwall, UK. The love between Zoey and Declan was passionate and hot from their first meeting, but the author plays it along, throwing in a mystery that had me rapidly turning the pages. When the mystery was finally revealed I was totally floored. This was brilliant. The writing was brilliant, the plot was tightly woven, and the situation totally unexpected. Highly recommended!
