My Reviews
This book had several local connections for me which may have made it more interesting: local writer and stories of the Finger Lakes wineries. It felt like the author was telling the story about friends. I was surprised by the people that are drawn (and sometimes obsessed) by what seems like a very difficult career path. It is the individual stories of these individuals that are creating and working in the wine business and a wine community that is working together in a unique way.
Each story is of hard work, adversity, and hope. But the book is more than the sum of individual stories- it is the threads that bind them that made the book more interesting to me. There is a bit of grape growing and wine making detail along with the stories. It is informative without being boring and drawn out.
The story of the present was entertaining- the story of the past was slow and depressing. Overall- I had a very difficult time getting into the book. Just when I would start to enjoy it- the story of the past would interrupt and I couldn\\\\\\\'t read that for any length of time. I had a hard time appreciating the character creation in the way it was framed.
The era and environment of the time are the central driving force in this story. Book kept your interest but there were times it was far more graphic but sexually and violence wise than I felt were necessary.
The story started slowly but in the end, it laid the framework for the drama in the rest of the story. There was a good balance of a young love story with the pull of troubles of the past. It resulted in a search for the truth mystery combine with a drama filled with action and suspense. Everything came to a neat closure. I enjoyed the book. The historical comparison reminded me that we have made strides in the fight for equality but the progress is slow and ongoing through the generations.
The book drew me in. The descriptive nature of the writing had me feeling the emotions of the main character.
