My Reviews
This is an excellent mystery, written in the style and tradition of the great classics. The plot develops well with plenty of interesting characters and situations. The writing is exceptional. By the end of the story you will have really become attached to the detectives and will feel as if you know them personally. The author does a splendid job mixing just the right amount of description, character development, and plot twists. The story is highly addictive, a real page turner if I have ever read one! I highly recommend this story to all mystery enthusiasts. I will be watching for other works by this remarkable author.
This is a well written, compelling, and ultra-realistic view inside the violent world of a Pakistani intelligence officer. I loved that it is, for once, not written from the American or British perspective. Not only does the story stand on its own, the glimpse inside a different culture is fascinating and refreshing. The plot has political intrigue, action, and violence. Like all expert spy thrillers, this one keeps you guessing about where things will go next and how they will end up. The protagonist is a flawed hero who does many questionable things, but they are in defense of his true culture and community as well as his country. The author does a great job conveying the underlying motivations and heart of his protagonist. He quickly won me over and I became very invested in the character’s success or failure. I plan to read any future work by this author.
The author does an amazing job weaving disparate genres and styles into a cohesive and beautiful story of love and passion. The erotic elements are exceptionally well done as are the lovely poems. You form a strong connection with the protagonist, Liz, and are totally carried away by her story. I can not even begin to say how impressed I am by the author’s skill and sensitivity. I highly recommend this book and intend to read all of her other works!
This is an enjoyable tale that presents amusing anthropological speculation in a mystery suspense setting. The action runs around the world from Israel to the USA to the Bay of Bengal. The characters are quirky and likable, with a twisted villain who will surprise you. Although it is a mystery suspense novel, it is light and fun reminding me of reading “The Hardy Boys” in my youth. This is the second in a series, bit I enjoyed it without reading the first. I did not notice that I had missed anything.
A Must Read! This masterfully written novella grabs you on the first page and doesn’t let you go. It is riveting and dark, but lightened with just the right touch of humor. By the end, you will be satisfied but want more. I can’t wait for a sequel or anything else the author, John Cassian decides to write. Not for the timid reader, Cassian pulls no punches. His protagonist killer is unapologetically sick and twisted, but strangely likable. The book is billed as a “dark erotic thriller” but it is not erotica at all. It is a fun, fast-paced thriller covering a very dark topic. It includes explicit sexual situations that are essential to the story line and are never gratuitous or extraneous. I could not be more impressed with the quality of the writing or the compelling nature of the story. “Killing Matt Cooper” has a permanent place on my favorite books shelf! Cassian successfully captured the feel of a “Criminal Minds” type television show, but transformed it into a fascinating, “Dexter” like, view inside the mind of a serial killer. In many ways I was reminded of the excellent scenes from the killer’s perspective in Thomas Harris’ classic thrillers "Red Dragon” and “Silence Of The Lambs.” Don’t miss this one, you won’t be sorry.
This is the story of what at first appears to be a "tragic misguided bigot" who goes berserk when his wife and son are murdered by terrorists. But, there is far more depth to it than that. It is a fascinating and well written glimpse inside the mind of a hawkish, right-wing, ex-marine who is pushed past his snapping point. Delightfully, what happens next isn’t at all what you might expect. All of his illusions are burst when his mind is opened to a far more complex world than he had hitherto imagined. And, having already opened pandora’s box, it is too late to close it. The plot is narrated in a refreshingly politically-incorrect style that suits the character and story quite well. The vengeance that the protagonist believes to be justice, is doled out in a manner that is viscerally satisfying and allows the reader to secretly indulge in vicarious machismo moments. Some liberals may be put off at first by the political ideology of the protagonist. However, it is not necessary to agree with this protagonist to really enjoy the story, by the end of the book most readers will come to like and understand him. When does the sequel come out?
