Our group felt that the story was well written, that we learned a lot about Japan's role in WWII and how a life can be turned around by developing a self-satisfying interest in life with a mentor who really cares about you. The story also tells about the devastating affects war has on it's veterans and how much help and understanding they need to try and live a normal life after they return home.
