My Reviews

My Antonia by Willa Cather

Slow, Pointless, Insightful
A great classic!!

This book has stood the test of time. It's a classic for everyone!!

Dark, Adventurous, Confusing
Awesome & really an adult book!

This pretty much goes for all of the HP books. I stayed away from thse because i thought they were for kids. My aunt convinced me to read Book #1 in July. Before the end of August, I had read all seven books. The last book left some things to be desired because it seems she just wanted an ending and finito! But the HP legacy is worth redaing. Highly recommended!

Dramatic, Interesting, Beautiful
I liked the movie better!

Ok I really love to read the books before ever watching a movie because the movie always seems to suck in comparison. However, this is an exception. The story itself is ok but I just think this is one of those books with a story that could've been told in a lot less words. If you have the time, go ahead and read it. But if you want a gift book to someone who is not so interested in reading like a teenager--don't start them with this book. Let them watch the movie.

Romantic, Beautiful, Brilliant
Absolutely fantastic!!

This book is funny, witty and full of life! I cannot ever put it down. I've read it a few times and is my favorite Jane Austen book. This one is captivating and is especially good to read in a women's group. It shows a lot of the social rules of the author's day and is very entertaining. My 14 year old niece actually read this one with me with no complaints! That says a lot!

Two Little Girls in Blue: A Novel by Mary Higgins Clark

Not MHC at her best!

I love Mary Higgins Clark. She is one of my favorite authors. Her books are usually page-turners and they captivate you from beginning to end. However, this was not one of her best story lines. It is about two twin girls who get kidnapped and the kidnappers want a ransom that the parents cannot afford. The ransom gets paid but only one twin gets returned. Everyone is led to believe that the missing twin is dead. However, the mom notices the "surviving" twin acting peculiar. She is speaking to her other sister through "twin talk." So the mom has to convince people that her other daughter is alive and it's a race against time to find the missing twin who is very ill.
The idea of twins being able to feel each other's pain and read each other's thoughts is fascinating. And it has been used by other authors with success. I think the problem with this book was that the girls had just turned three and actually seemed to be behaving a lot older. It just wasn't believable. It seemed to be too contrived. MHC should try it again with teenagers or maybe adult sisters.

No Time for Goodbye by Linwood Barclay

Great story line!!!!

It took me all of maybe three hours to read this spread out over a couple of days. This is my first Barclay book and let me just say that I LOVED IT!! I will be looking for more from this author.
The beginning is excellent. A 14 year old girl wakes up to find that her parents and brother are missing. She later gets married and has a child of her own. She has a lot of anxiety about the safety of her own child and rightfully so since she still has no idea what happened to her family. Anyway, I will not give away the ending but it was great although I must say there was one particular plot twist that was introduced at the very end (and I mean the last few pages) that I thought was totally unnecessary. The mystery and plot were great without it!
Totally recommended!

Fun
My first Evanovich book and won't be my last!

This is a very short read and perfect for this time of year! It's just a very cutesy type read. The Stephanie Plum character is great. She is very much like an old school friend. She just seems very real. My friend introduced me to Evanovich with this book. Now I can't wait to pick up another!

The Survivors Club by Lisa Gardner

A great pick!

Lisa Gardner is always fabulous! This book does not dissapoint. A very good book choice for a women's group as it deals with the relationship that ensues with a group of women after suffering at the hands of the same criminal. These are all very different women with different life issues and the crimes affect them in different ways. The women form a special bond. On the way to court (or maybe from court), the guy gets killed. Of course all eyes point to the women and all clues as well. The good thing about this read is that although we all know killing is wrong, you just cannot blame any of the women if they actually did it and you actually find yourself hoping that one of them did. The resolution is unexpected.

The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks

Romantic, Beautiful, Fantastic
A fabulous story of true love!

I saw the movie and although it is one of the better book adaptations I've seen, the book is so much better. I love a book that can make you smile, shout, laugh, and cry--all in a few pages. It's a rollercoaster of emotions for sure but it's so worth it. It will leave you feeling hopeful that maybe you too will experience love like this.
