Loved the author's style. Hard to put down.
Loved the detail...father's life was very interesting as well as treatment of sister. Had to read at intervals because it didn't take much to reach a saturation of Barbara. Liked her style of writing...personal...like a converation. Enjoyed reliving some of the moments.
Organization of book created lots of repetition of material which made it less enjoyable to read.
The reading was slow at the beginning but became much more interesting as details brought events togethers. Since I do not have a medical background I found myself skimming over some of the graphic surgical scenes because I did not understand the jargon.
Loved it. Tells about the strenghth of women and men during times of hardship and how they made life-changing decisions that affected everyone's life.
Not a bookclub book; however, did lead to discussion of witchcraft and value of women by men and society.
It was light reading but the author could have done a much better job writing. There were glimpses of interesting pages but she would soon follow a path of marketing that is cliche when it was time to build a plot or character.
Liked the way the author directed the events from a historical point of view without prejudice, emotional attachments and a judgemental attitude. Offering an overview of the cultural and ethnic values of the time helped me understand the reasons and background that led up to events and the various interpretations of an outcome. Wish such writing was more in the textbooks in schools.
An easy read, brilliantly written story of a family and each member's depth of moral values which were rooted in the religious and social structure of that time and their affect upon the direction of each one's life journey as well as the development of the family as one unit.
