My Reviews
This is a well written story wihin a story. There are nine people trapped and you do not know if they are going to be rescued or not. Telling stories about one amazing thing in their life is how they are distracting themselves from the world around them. It makes you think what your own amazing story would be. It was a good discussion.
This is a great book, not only for the content of the 1936 rowing competition at the Olympics when Germany was getting ready to start a war but for all of the other issues such as the depression, the great dust bowl, and some other events that happened during that time that never gets discussed. I found myself having to stop and look up stuff or asking my dad since he was born during that time. We had quite a good discussion about this book. Definitely one I will recommend to everyone.
I really liked this book. I learned a lot about the Channel, the tides, the rules of doing the swimming and of course YAY Women for standing up and doing the swim despite the negative responses from the men. We had quite a lively discussion about this book. I totally recommend it.
I really loved this book. Although it is fiction you can see that Artemesia is the "Trailblazer" for the suffragettes. Being the first female accepted in the Academy was totally amazing for that time period for a woman to accomplish. I found a lot of things that happened in this book still happen today and people (men) seem to still think it is okay. There is still a lot to be discovered and talked about, However the main take away is that she never deviated from her goal of being the best artist she would be. Shows that everyone needs and should have this same goal. I have totally recommended this book o everyone. Hopefully they will read and enjoy it also.
