The Regal Sisterhood Book Club chose \\\"What’s Done In the Dark” for our February 2015 book of the month. ReShonda has absolutely mastered the art of telling a telling a true to life, controversial story, sprinkled with the right amount of Christian values! Because this book does not come off “preachy” it has the ability to reach everyone and deliver a message of faith, love and forgiveness. The characters are extraordinary and well developed. The reader is provided with enough “back story” to make sense of the current events. ReShonda’s writing style will make you laugh and feel the hearts of the characters long after the final page is read. This book sparked a spirited discussion among the Regal Sisters with a broad range of topics that provided food for thought. This book was an excellent reminder that what’s done in the dark will eventually come to light. Even if it’s not shown publically, the internal realization will eventually rear its ugly head in other ways. The only reason we are giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is because we felt as though we were left to make an assumption about what eventually happened to Sabrina. We thought having her in attendance in chapter 51 would have been befitting. Nevertheless, this is a perfect read for anyone and especially book clubs!

The Regal Sisterhood Book Club enjoyed this read by one of our favorites VCM. Once again, she did not fail us with her charismatic style of writing and thought provoking story-lines. This book is good for any woman who has an Ex, and obviously that would be all encompassing of the female gender. The lives of the women in this book will have all women thinking that the Ex is an Ex for a reason. Don't go back! Grow and learn from that necessary experience and have the strength to move on. This book provided a lot of conversational material and will forever have an impact on the lives of The Regal Sister's. We only gave it 4 stars because it does start out rather slow. But hang it in there, it's gets much better along the way. Great Job Victoria!
This book was our May book of the month selection. While we enjoyed the book and appreciated the discussion questions that made our meeting engaging and provoked thoughts and conversation, we are only able to give it 3 stars. Reason being, although the writing is engaging, the novel delivers an unnecessary storyline and undeveloped characters. The main plot involving the “Big Buy” discrimination lawsuit, the Vernetta Henderson and Girlie Cortez rivalry and the cause of Judi’s death will captivate the reader. The subplot regarding the Muslim story seemed irrelevant. Since the author chose to incorporate Muslim religion and challenges that may arise when dating outside your faith, this would’ve been an opportunity to use as an educational piece of the Muslim religion. Unfortunately, the author may have felt this was a way to describe Special Moore (yes her name is “Special”) and lengthening the book. The undeveloped characters are Tonisha and Lamarr. Even though the Lamarr’s verdict was unpredictable and the outcome fell in Lamarr’s favor, it did not enhance this novel, making them out-of-place characters. Olivia did win her lawsuit, but it would’ve been interesting to know the exact dollar amount. Overall, this novel will gratify its readers, if they’re searching for a few legal theory concepts, likeable, but unremarkable characters. If you don’t mind reading a book that does not make you think about the characters, well after you have finished reading, then this suspense novel is for you.

The Regal Sisterhood chose “The Old Man in the Club” for our July book of the month. This was our 1st read by Curtis Bunn and it proved to be a good selection. This book was a little different from others we have read in the past. It was more informative than it was entertaining. Not a bad thing. Just something most members observed. The author explored the psyche, examined the hang-ups and dove into the heart of numerous characters in this book. Along the journey, we learned about dating, homosexuality, infidelity and ego-driven behavior. All of this content made for a very interesting discussion during our book club meeting. This book reiterated one thing we discovered a while back after reading another insightful novel, you really have no idea what has happened in a person’s life that got them to the place they are now. Society is so quick to judge someone’s chapter 8 without the knowledge of what happened in chapters 1-7. We liked Elliot and the next time we see “him” in the club, we will be sure to smile and say “Hello”.
This book goes deep to the core of the Stand Your Ground law and how the perpetrators and victims are affected.
"Never Breathe Again" by Marissa Monteilh was the January 2016 book of the month for the Regal Sisterhood Book Club. This novel centers around Mahogany Cooper and her husband, Julian Cooper. After seven years of marriage, Julian leaves Mahogany for his lifelong friend, Golden Thomas. The author does an excellent job of conveying the depth of Mahogany’s broken heart and the effects it has on her daily life in the aftermath. She attempts self-help remedies from a relationship advisor, seeks spiritual guidance by praying for her marriage to be restored and even tries to move forward by exploring the dating scene. It’s this dangerous combination that creates a roux of twists and turns within Mahogany’s family and social relationships. This book provides an enormous amount of insightful ideas surrounding the institution of marriage and cheating.
We gave this book 4 out of 5 stars. Our rating was based on Book Presentation, Character Development, Storyline, Setting, and Editing. We noticed several grammatical and spelling errors, but they were not enough to overcome the best line in the book. “Or maybe you’re “dick-stracted.” Can your penis even be faithful?”
We were introduced to the author at the 2015 National Book Club Conference in Atlanta and were pleasantly surprised by her creativity and overall energy. She has a unique way of bringing her characters to life. We recommend this book so others can discover if Mahogany will survive losing her love, or will a broken heart be too much for her, and for him, to bear.

The Regal Sisterhood Book Club chose “The Perfect Affair” for our April 2016 Book of the Month. This was our first time reading this author and we were pleasantly surprised by her literary talent. Her ability to weave a story was clever and has peaked our interest to read more of her work. The story was well written and one heck of a page turner. The main character is an obsessed yet well-educated beautiful woman willing to do anything to get her man. This book had many twist and turns. It flowed from beginning to end as the plot kept getting thicker and thicker. This is a must read that will leave you wondering, if you can believe anything you “think” you hear and half of what you “think” you see.
We gave this book 5 out of 5 stars. Our rating was based on Book Presentation, Character Development, Storyline, Setting and Editing.

If we could give this book 10 Stars, we would! This story draws you in from the very 1st chapter and never lets you go. You are immediately committed to bringing this kidnapped child back home to her mother. This is a must read for every parent because it provides valuable insight into the dangers of social media and shines a bright light on the value of family unity. Excellent Read! Great on Audible too!
The Regal Sisterhood Book Club chose Soul Source as their book of the month for September 2017. Soul Source is an anthology by author and international speaker Cheryl Polote-Williamson. In this compelling non-fiction piece, we encounter twenty-three authors whose souls are nourished, lifted, and favored by the grace of God. These brave women shared their stories and lessons about forgiveness, grief, self-love, disappointment, betrayal, depression, bitterness, abuse, and pain. We were blown away by the realness and transparency within each story. Reading Soul Source is like sitting in a group therapy session with women whose stories seem to resonate and speak to various areas of your life. It is deeply profound and comforting to know your feelings and experiences are not solely isolated. We recommend this book for your must-read list. It has changed our lives, and we are sure it will break chains of bondage in the lives of others as well. Below are some individual testimonies from some of our Regal Sisters.
Regal Sister #1: Soul Source was a great read. The stories had me on an emotional roller coaster. I laughed, cried, celebrated, and praised. The title of this book truly defined the depth of what is being shared. Not only were they speaking from their souls, but healing began when the source (God) was identified. I loved the inspiration, encouragement, and surely the correlation to Gods word. Excellent selection!
Regal Sister #2: This book is so powerful that I could not put it down. I tried to pace myself and just read one story each day, but that did not work. I found myself reading 3-4 stories each night. I commend each woman for being brave and sharing their story with the world. People just don't realize how much healing is in transparency. It not only heals the one sharing but it also heals others because they realize there is life after past experiences. Your ability to live through the situation is your permission and duty to share your victory with others. There were numerous stories of which I could identify in this book, but the one that provided a life-changing revelation for me was Loss and Rejection: That Stuff Challenges You Faith by Regina M.Poole. With these simple words, every hurt and pain in my past romantic relationships began to make sense: "My experience with my father was a lesson in rejection, which manifested in so many different ways. I am not sharing this recollection to bash my father, but am sharing this in hopes that I can help someone else break free of the rejection from his or her father.” I was changed in the twinkling of an eye! I recommend this book for anyone who has thoughts of growing and becoming the magnificent person God calls us to be.
This book is one that will promote a wealth of conversation. You will not be disappointed.
