My Reviews
For the most part, I don\\\'t like Jodi Picoult\\\'s books. To me she had always followed basically the same formula. I wasn\\\'t necessarily happy when our book club picked this book. Didn\\\'t buy it but got it from the library. The book starts off a bit slow but you do have to get to know the various individuals.
And then I couldn\\\'t put it down! In fact, I stayed up until after 1:00 a.m. in order to finish it.
She made the lives of the people living through the Holocaust real. They had family that would just be gone. There were no rules to survival, just luck, or for many, maybe not so lucky.
A very good read.
At first, I found the beginning confusing. But once I got into the story, I couldn\\\\\\\'t put it down. I became involved in the characters and their relationships with each other and how their life choices impacted the decisions that they made. I think that many people are similar to the characters here. You meet someone and jump to conclusions because they are young or well-dressed or always late. But you never know what goes on behind their closed doors.
I have recommended this book to others outside of our book club.
Our book club was meeting and I had barely cracked the cover. Once I did, I read the book in one evening. Some of the sex wasn\\\'t necessary but the book and story line was interesting and had some great twists and turns. Everyone that came to our meeting enjoyed it. We all also agreed that we would read other books by this author (M.C. Holman).
This book enveloped me. Once I started it, I could not put it down and finished it in one weekend. The ending was so heartfelt and sobering that I cried and then was disappointed that their story came to an end. Dramatic, sad and brilliantly done!
This is a quick, fun read. Perfect for a summer vacation. In fact, I read it on vacation then handed it over to my husband. He liked it more than I did.
