Great handling of a difficult subject

This was a great book club book as it invited a lot of discussion and opinions. It was also an eye opener, hopefully, for many, as to what can constitute bullying and how it affects everyone. It also serves as a wake up call to those that have seen some of this bullying amongst their own children and their community.

The one if I might call it fault with the book is that our members felt that there should have been a resolution to the problem. Rationally, we know that there is not one way to address this, but many ways. But as it is a book and most of us like happy endings, I think we were looking for the happy ending that never came.

I sure did like the twist in the story though.

A disturbing but powerful reminder that the world can be a dangerous place but it is also a story of one man's path to overcoming extreme obstacles.

Although our group was quite disturbed by this story, we felt that the message was uplifting. How this young man with a beautiful smile was able to overcome such incredible odds at tremendous sacrifice is a testament to his spirit and his soul.

The Book of Negroes/ Someone Knows My Name by Lawrence Hill

A wonderful historic epic of an African American young woman kidnapped at the age of 11 into slavery. The story is inspiring and optimistic. It gives us a glimpse of what it might have been like to be a young black woman in the 18th century. Kudos to the author to capture the women's perspective!

Loved it!

I liked the way it was written. The author drew you into the stories and the characters came alive. The visuals created make me want to visit this small town. It has been a long time since I wanted a book to keep going.

Unconvincing, Slow, Interesting
not a fan

I am not a fan of books such as this and several other authors that are being paid to tell their story as they are living it. I don\\\\\\\'t find it true to form and always end up feeling that the author wasn\\\\\\\'t honest with themselves and therefore not with us.
