My Reviews
An interesting book that provided several topics for discussion including race, being an outsider, mothering, parenting, and friendship. It was easy to read and yet thought provoking.
We received a book club set from this website. We loved having an easy choice for this months selection. The book starts a little slow and one member couldn't get past the beginning. The rest of us enjoyed the story especially about mid way when Lillian starts her walk. Strong female character and even better that she is based on a real person. Give this book a chance for your club! It provided much discussion about the women in our lives and role models.
One event changes the course of history. Interwoven stories of every day events and people that are impacted by the change in history. Relatable characters and four interesting storylines to follow. This book provided a great basis for discussion.
We simply selected this book based on someone's recommendation to read this author. The subject matter was too dark for most of our members. Wish we would have picked a different Karen Slaughter book.
We all enjoyed the book because we live near Yellow Springs. It provided some discussion about neighbors and relationships but it wasn't a deep thinking book. You can get discussion questions.
Varina's life is interesting but the structure of the book detracted from the story .
Our book club won this book through a giveaway! Thank you! Enough copies for everyone. This is a slim collection of essays that are delightful to read. We found the stories to be evocative, earnest, and humorous. His writing is poetic. We feel fortunate to have copies on our shelves so we can read his essays throughout the year and enjoy the stories in the moment! We are looking forward to reading a novel by Will Dowd.
