My Reviews
This book starts slow and several members did not finish the book. Everyone who finished the book really liked it and found it inspiring. Most of us plan on reading the next book What Difference Do it Make?
Our group enjoyed this book. The twist at the end made you rethink the entire book. It was the first time we had really thought about the people in England during World War 2.
Several in our group thought the beginning was slow. After that they couldn't put it down. Many felt they learned a lot about life after the Civil War.
Our book club loved this book. Everyone read it quickly, they couldn't put it down.
This book gave a graphic description of medical treatment during the civil war. It was well researched. It was also a book about women's rights. Mary was unable to get into medical school because she was a woman. She becomes a doctor at the end of the book.
We liked the book. It had historical details from a time we had not thought a lot about. It led to a good discussion about women and about being gay back in the 1920's.
We had a couple in our group who really liked this book. The rest had problems finishing it. It was an easier read than most books we read, but this also made it less interesting for many. Several of us watched the movie and enjoyed it.
This was one of the few books that everyone in our book club finished reading. We usually have a couple who are not interested enough to finish reading our book.
Our group liked the characters in this book. We were surprised that such a young women could be so strong in her convictions that she would go against orders from her bosses at work. Several in our book club were unaware of this part of our history.
We liked the way the story was told from 2 very different perspectives. A couple members found it hard to keep the many characters straight in the first part of the book.
This is one of the few books that all of our members liked. We all learned something we didn't know by reading this book.
Only half of our book club finished this book. It was not a fun book to read. The main problem people had was the way it changed from present tense to past tense in the same paragraph and we were sometimes left wondering where we were. I found it easier to follow by the time I had read half of the book.
This was an easy read and our discussion was fun. We had many things left unanswered and several wanted to read the next book in the series.
Our book club had very mixed opinions about this book. Only half of our club finished the book. The half that finished the book liked it, although it took them about 100 pages before they wanted to read more. The half that did not finish it found it difficult to get involved in because it jumped between time periods and characters.
This book was a good fun read, but didn't have enough in it for a book discussion.
We enjoyed it only because we had been to most of the places listed in the book. The story is written by many authors and we felt it didn't flow as well as it could have.
Only half of our club read this book. The ones who finished it loved it and found it inspiring. The ones who didn't finish it were bored with all of the rowing details. I personally loved it and I am recommending it to others.
Several in our book club loved this book and several didn't finish it. Very mixed reviews from our group. I liked it especially because it is timeless. The advice she gives about life in the 50's is good for today.
We read this book because we had been reading heavier books and wanted an easy book. This book had more sex in it than the last Sandra Brown book I read. It was a fun mystery. Half of our group liked it and half didn't finish it. Pretty normal for our group.
This book is one of the few that all of our members finished. They enjoyed it.
