We all gave it a five. That has never happened before. I felt this was a special book. Different than any other book. Told from different points of view. Many important themes for kids and adults.
Never knew this story might be true. Also it was interesting to think about how many women might have masqueraded as men. Very well researched. As a Catholic who remembers pre Vatican II very nice to see the Latin.
Loved it. Seemed so real. Diary was such a great device. We got to even see what happened to present day. Lots of info on Indian life. Cultures were so different. The early west also interesting. Women who signed up were unique
Very descriptive of desolate Canada unpopulated areas. The pond was so intensive. Characters well drawn. Plot was good but Kate's way of looking at life and her family was very much the main problem which was resolved.
We drew meaningful sentences and paragraphs out of a bag and then read them to the group interpreting them. Made you appreciate book more.

If you love old Hollywood, cleopatra the movie, fishing villages in Italy, several time periods, several plots running-- you will love this book. Most of our club liked it.
A calf is born with Jesus' image on his black and white side in the small Wisconsin town of Swivel. I loved the characters. The area is so like Holcombe and is so familiar. The plot is tight and the theme is philosophical about religion and small town values.
I liked it very much
Suspense filled. Many twist and turns. Kind of gruesome.
We felt these were short storie someone put together just after her death to make money. Some of our members wished the stories would intertwine but they were all individual. Very interesting cross watch of different types and classes in Ireland today.
Not my favorite. Fantasy and unreal magic. Not a world I can relate to. Strange.
