The toughness of the boys to succeed and win the Olympic crew race was amazing. They were not on scholarships or any help from the school, but worked in really difficult jobs to keep their places. It was so well-written that a reader would say "but I know that they won--why am I worrying?" A good view over the 1936 Olympics in Germany.
Gertrude Eberle was not the only swimmer tackling the English Channel to be the first woman to cross it. This book introduces other swimmers trying to make their mark also. Interesting people and great descriptions of their attempts at fame. The weather, temperature and support teams were of vital importance in these endurance struggles.
