My Reviews

Interesting and unique perspective from the deepest thoughts of a 17-year-old boy.

Honestly, the foul language in the beginning of the book is off-putting; but the author lightened up significantly a few chapters in...so what was that about??? It becomes confusing in places, where the plot wanders. But eventually, the story hooks you to the point where you can't put it down. Most interesting are the inner-thoughts and conflcted emotions of Luke...who in his heart of hearts is solid, sane, and caring.
As a first book, this one is encouraging, particularly for a female writer to have written so believably as a young male. However, to gain greater acclaim and readership, Proux should seek a new editor, and get better advice on her cover art-work. Had this book not been given to our book club gratis, I would have passed it by in the bookstore. The cover is not compelling...nor is the title. But once you begin (and get past the opening language), you will be intrigued enough to continue to the end.
