My Reviews
This book was a delight. The story and the history of NYC and Brooklyn was deep and memorable. It made me want to travel back in time for a short visit to experience the dramatic difference between today and 100 years ago.
Our club unanimously enjoyed this book. We found it to be very touching. The characters are loveable and we want to know more about them and what happens next in their lives. There is a sequel, but I'm not sure it is as good. We will read it and find out.
This book was non-fiction and very informative about the 1893 Chicago World's Fair. I learned all about the planning, designing and building of it and was awe struck by how much was accomplished in a time without all the machinery and technology that we have today. The story re the murderer who was honing his craft during this time could have been a book all to itself. The two stories didn't quite mesh in my opinion and there was an awful lot of technological info re architecture that was at times dull. Some members put the book down but I am very happy that I read it.
Our book club members all loved this book and the character Ove. He was full of surprises and we laughed and were touched by all the characters, especially Ove.
My group enjoyed this book. It was a good story but lacked depth. We enjoyed reading about the perilous journey and would like to learn more about those who are brave enough to make the life-threatening trip to cross the Mexican border to the U.S.
This book drew me in at first, but as the story began to drift in many directions, I lost some interest. It was a little far-fetched but interesting. By the end, I felt like it would make a great TV movie.
Very informative book about a brave young woman's desire to travel to dangerous parts of the world, to experience the differences and beauty of this planet. Her quest, however, put her in a position that would have killed most. Her spirit and strength kept her alive.
Louis Zamperini was one of a kind. He was a remarkable man who experienced the horror of war to a degree that is difficult to read about. The fact that he survived the torture he endured and was able to live a long and eventually happy life was inspiring. I will not forget him.
