My Reviews
I thoroughly enjoyed this book; however, I grew up in the Middle East, so I could relate with the experiences that Mortenson was going through.
I personally found this book to be inspirational. Our war on terror is being fought in the wrong battlefield. We should be spending our money, resources and human capital on education. It is one of the best ways to win the hearts and minds of people with cultures different than our own. Mortenson is paving the way to increase the level of education, literacy and health care in countries that need it the most. He is a real hero in the war on terror.
This book was an easy and entertaining read. I especially enjoyed the prologue by the author describing her research and how many of the book's tales were based on true stories of the circus. The book paints a vivid image in the reader's mind of colorful characters and intense human relations in an intriguing setting.
No Country for Old Men has a gripping story line from the very beginning which has you guessing the consequences of each action along the way. While the violence is disturbing, it reflects some of the current issues taking place along the US and Mexican border. The Texas slang was tough to read, but added to the setting of the story.
