For a seemingly simple story, Can't Wait to Get to Heaven proves a fertile source of fairly complex discussion topics. The meaning of life, faith, humanity, kindness, near-death experiences, aging, religion, human frailty, technology, and the future of the world are just some of the subjects that flow naturally from this companionable book.
David Howard has followed the trail of one of the original copies of The Bill of Rights from its rightful place in North Carolina's statehouse to the wall of a family home in Indianapolis to an FBI sting in Philadelphia that ultimately returned it to Raleigh. Along the way he reveals the inner workings of the markets for antiques and historical manuscripts and how states and the federal government work to retrieve documents that have been lost or stolen over the years. This book reads like the script for "National Treasure"--except it's all true!
