My Reviews
Our group had a stimulating conversation about this book. Usually we spend an hour but this event lasted over 2 1/2. Everyone thought this book was one of the best we have done both in read and discussion.
Our group really enjoyed this book. It stimulated much discussion not only about the story, how it was well written and a great read but how we individually look at what is ahead of us as we age. Highly recommended.
At 32, Delia Hopkins discovers that her beloved father had kidnapped her from her mother and raised her in secret in New Hampshire. As the story unfolds her father is put on trial to be defended by Delia's fiance. She meets her mother and has to come to grips with the the hurt and anger that she feels over this sudden turn of events in her life. Toss in interesting cast of other characters and you have a very interesting read.
Our group had trouble finishing the book only two of us completed it. Most of us had belonged to another club but separating to form our own. If the leader of that group said it was "well written" we knew that is was going to be well written but would for many of us a chore to get through. This was the case with this book.
The Sociopath Next Door was one of the most enlightning books our group has read so far. It stimulated much discussion. All of us had been touched by a sociopath in varing degrees in our lives. From the husband to the employer, friend or family member, helped explain their behavior. It gives the tools on how to spot a sociopath and how the avoid them. I felt this book brought the group much closer as a whole.
Would recommend to book but several of our members had trouble finding the book locally.
Our group throughly enjoyed this book. A couple of members hadn't finished the book before the meeting but were excited about finishing it. We had an excellent discussion about the people of the area and the concept of fighting terrorism with education. Wonderful book about a very interesting character, Greg Mortenson.
Our group loved this book. Many of us were able to watch the movie, also, before the meeting. It was a great compliment to the book. Would highly recommend this to any book club.
The members of our group are in their 50's & early 60's. We have been together a long time and decided to take a couple of months off to do some personal reflecting. We chose this book because we all were felling that a boost to our self confidences was in order. We had so much fun measuring, talking about our personality types, etc. that we have decided to spend another meeting with the same book. Fun
The book is a fairly long read for a monthly reading. Most of us didn't quite finish it but all said they would. As a group that has been meeting for several years, we are expanding our selections by adding more historical based books. We are looking to expand our knowledge of history and how it relates to what is happening in the world today. Our growth as a group has brought us to a point that we are all gaining a renewed thirst for an understanding of the world around us. History can teach us much..Reston takes some liberties with his characters which creates a compelling story. It is a rich and engaging book with the best of fiction and fact.
