My Reviews
Really enjoyed \"Minding Frankie\" & \"A Week in WInter\". The change in genre to short stories is more challenging and was a nice change of pace. Some are quite endearing, others surprising, all enjoyable.
Well written historical book about the sinking of the Essex in 1800s and whaling. The event was the basis for fiction tale Moby Dick. Not a book I may have chosen on my own, but important & interesting historical event.
Intriguing should be on your descriptive list. This book elicited a lot of discussion in our book group. Somewhat typical as you are led through the event and trial, but the ending brings up all sorts of possibilities. Start with the question, "Who really did it?" and work backwards from there. Enjoy!
Our book club received this book as one of your free give-aways. I was most intrigued with M. de Florian character and the social mores of the period. But author also did well weaving two stories together, past & present. Present day story had some feel of a romance novel but overall enjoyable.
Good "who-dun-it" with twists and turns. Keeps one's interest all the way through.
Incredible character - strong, intelligent, made something of her & her children's lives that without her perseverance could have turned out badly. I continue to wonder how she did it!
A must read! Fantastic! Our whole book club had quite a lively discussion. Easy to read, good pace, interesting characters, incredible what each experienced. Nazis & holocaust are not my favorite subjects but this book kept me enthralled. Loved it!
Insightful - touches on many issues & topics. "It takes a village" in reverse-the curmudgeon saves his neighbors. Humorous - in situations, how Ove views life & others. Yet many serious, thoughtful, touching moments. Put down whatever you are reading and read this wonderful story!
So helpful understanding from patient's point of view. Author guided reader through the process subtlety just like the actual disease would progress. Different reactions of other characters realistic & helpful. Shied away from reading because of subject matter but learned a lot - information everyone needs.
Interesting characters, siblings all different from one another & how they face challenges. Explores how money may be root of all evil & anticipating it will solve all problems just isn't true. Each must deal with own life & not depend on money to fix it.
Good for summer or beach read.
Disjointed, jumps in time without explanation. Good job on savant voice after you know it's a savant character or it's just annoying. Lots of interesting ideas & parts but don't necessarily fit together. Eventually figured out to take philosophical passages with humor or tongue-in-cheek. Lots of "huhs" & ???!!
