My Reviews

Infidel by Ayaan Hirsi Ali

Informative, Insightful, Inspiring
Terrific, eye-opening look into women and Islam

I would not hesitate to recommend this book to anyone. The reason I gave it three stars rather than five is simply that our group quickly came to the same conclusions. Because we all agreed on so many aspects, the discussion was more limited than I had expected.

The Poe Shadow: A Novel by Matthew Pearl

Very slow read...

I just finished this book and would not recommend it to my book club. It was one of the slowest reads I've had in all of 2007 and unfortunately, I can't say the ending changed my opinion as can sometimes happen.

Lots of discussion

One person walked into the room and said, 'I just didn't like her much'. We have met as a book club for many years but have never read a biography. It's very different, of course, from fiction or memoir type nonfiction. We had a fairly long discussion with very different opinions about Helen Gurley Brown. Should she be included alongside Betty Friedan and Gloria Steinam in the women's movement? It was a good choice for our group after a summer hiatus.
