My Reviews
Very interesting to see how all the characters were entwined with each other. The unreliable narrator format made the story really interesting. Fun to try to chart all the characters and see who had a connection to whom and what secrets did each character have which complicated their lives. Great story once you get into it far enough that you can see the characters as flawed people trying to live happily, except for the one really bad character who was guilty.
What human events make one act in a way that isn't honest? Who does that decision affect? How are the people affected dealing with the problem? Great to ponder, but the setting is also a cause. Fascinating story on so many levels. Heart breaking and finally resolved on many levels.
Very well written. The topic is new and well worth thinking about. Characters are realistically complicated. Lots to think about and discuss with others.
All of our readers really enjoyed this story. We also thought it was especially well written. The characters were developed so well they became real and the emotional interaction of the characters pulled the reader into the story. It is an excellent book to discuss as a group because the motivations of the characters and the affect of timing on the lives of the two families was open to personal interpretation. The fact it is the authors first book is amazing. Thanks BookMovement for introducing this novel to our book club.
Interesting. Women in science, women's opportunities in life, and social class at the time are all part of this story. Starts to drag at the end, but still an enjoyable book.
The stories of the people who inhabited the Twin houses were complex, and mesmerizing. All the pieces come together as the heroine also sorts out her issues and finally comes to grips with her psychic gifts. Descriptions of the settings were well done.
