My Reviews

Beautiful, Inspiring, Interesting
Set in Montana, this book chronicles a widower with three boys to raise and their one room school.

This book is a delightful read. It is full of surprises, keeping it a page turner. The Whistling Season is narrated by the 12 year old son of the widower. This boy is brilliant and makes observations about all the characters in a way that makes the reader feel that he/she is right there in the scene. Being a retired teacher, my favorite parts were about the one room school and its eccentric, gifted teacher.

Interesting, Life Changing, Informative
this was a fascinating Alzheimer's Study with nuns

This book was an excellent read with scientific basis. The study had a control group: all the nun's from a particular order, which included women from all walks in life. I was fascinated to find that some nuns with advanced Alzheimer's had no symptoms. I think one of the greatest messages of this book was that attitudes are so influential for the pleasant condition of aging. In other words, be positive, think positive and live positive and your life will be much better.

Fascinating Japanese cultural story

I really enjoyed this book and it was great for discussion in our book club. We all had very divergent views and we all saw the book from different angles.

Interesting, Beautiful, Fun
A Bit Wordy

This was an "enchanting" book but way too long and wordy.

Boring, Inspiring, Insightful
Doctor in Haiti

This is an enlightening account of a giving Doctor who is determined to provide health to the poorest of the poor. This is a very inspiring book and gives me hope. Our group had a great discussion because we had two public health nurses in our group!!

Sister of My Heart: A Novel by Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni

Dramatic, Interesting, Insightful
A great cultural study, my favorite genre of books!!

This is a very well written book, with lots of beautiful descriptions of another culture. The story line moves along perfectly and I call it a real page-turner. Around every corner there were suprises that really kept the reader guessing. My book club unanamously loved this book and it was a favorite for almost all of us. I highly reccommend this book. One book club member had one complaint - she didn't like how the ending left her wondering what would happen next. Here is the greatest gift of all - the author wrote a sequel about these characters.
