My Reviews
I was hooked from the beginning. A tragic, fictional tale based on the true events of young, poor children taken from their parents and placed for adoption in a child trafficking ring. Heartbreaking yet mesmerizing.
I loved this book! Each chapter is about a different family member as time passes along two lineages. It was sad and yet fascinating look at slavery how it shaped our world. This would be an excellent choice for a book club that would lead to lively discussions.
I loved this book! It had a slow start, but the last two-thirds were read in one sitting! As with the author’s other book, Everything I Never Told You, these two books parallel each other with parents seemingly oblivious to what is going on with their children. Even Mia, who feels like she’s best friends with her daughter, is guilty.
I’m uncertain about this book’s purpose. There didn’t seem to be a plot, just social satire of New York’s 1%. It’s character driven about a dysfunctional, wealthy family, but I didn’t locate for any of the characters.
