The Nightingale: A Novel by Kristin Hannah
Book Club Recommended
Dramatic, Informative, Inspiring
Great for discussionThe book was full of engaging characters. The setting - occupied France during WWII - provided lots of conflict and drama.
Fifth Avenue, 5 A.M.: Audrey Hepburn, Breakfast at Tiffany's, and the Dawn of the Modern Woman by Sam Wasson
Pointless, Confusing, Poorly Written
Valentine: A Novel by Wetmore Elizabeth
Dramatic, Beautiful, Brilliant
I was amazed and horrified by the horrific crime it depicts as well as the myriad of responses to it and life, in general, in the West Texas oil field in the 1970s.
The role of women and their fortunes in this desolate place reminded me of Austen tales of females caught in difficult circumstances and their resilience to overcome obstacles.
I will not forget this haunting tale.
