My Reviews
I really had no interest in reading it, and was surprised how much I enjoyed it. Some of her thoughts on God, I did not agree with, but it did not overshadow how I felt about the book. The part in India got a little long and boring. Not as entertaining as Italy or Indonnesia. I liked her humor, and am interested to read her follow-up book that is coming out in 2009.
This wasn't the best book that I have ever read, but it kept my interest. I really wanted to find out what was going to happen to several of the characters in the book. Overall, I enjoyed the book and it kept me guessing.
Philippa Gregory tells another great story about the wives and court of Henry VIII. I always look forward to hear it from her research and her storytelling vision. Her books are always a quick read, and I find myself engrossed in the story. Highly recommend to read her books in order of history, but you don't have to.
I had NO interest in reading this book, and ended up loving it. It took a few chapters to understand what was going on and/or for me to even start liking it. But, it was well worth it! Glad to have read something that I wouldn't have picked out for myself. You never know what you might like!!!
I really liked reading this book and found myself wanting to know more about the author and her family. I loved her voice in this book. I think it was well written and it really makes you think.
Fast read and loved the letter style. Learned many new things regarding Guernsey during WWII. Overall, I really did like the book.
I really liked this book. I found it very insightful. I am a big fan of reading about other women during other times and/or in other cultures, and this was a well written book.
This book was one that was hard for me to put down. I kept wanting to read to find out what was going to happen next. I really felt like each character had her own voice, and that you could actually hear it in the way the author wrote her part. Really a moving book with great strong women characters.
I was very disappointed by this book. It was okay. I did learn a lot about the French involvement in WWII. Glad to have learned that. However, the character of Julia really annoyed me. I found her to be a little too involoved and felt like the auther poorly wrote her part towards the end. I wanted to read more about Sarah's life.
I kept waiting for this moment where I would be like "oh! that is interesting!" But I never had that happen. I found that I was getting some of the male characters confused with the others. Overall, not a great book. It was just okay.
Certain aspects of the book I really liked... thinking about what it must have been like to be the first people on Earth and their relationship with God. However, there were certain aspects that the Author really took large liberties with that didn't feel "real" to me... i.e the other people in the city seemed too advanced and more from Egyptian or Roman time.
Philippa Gregory knows how to tell a story. It is so well researched, and the detail that she goes into really paints a picture in your mind.
Overall I liked the book. At times, it was a little slow moving and had a little bit too much information. But it was really a great read. I liked the characters and found the history part very interesting. I would suggest to read it and learn more about Pope Joan.
So many facts that I was not aware of regarding Lincoln's death. I wish that books like this were what we read in High School History classes
Easy read. Nice story. Learned a little bit more about WWII and what kind-of impact it had on Japanese Americans. Nice love story.
This book was a nice read, and a quick read. The descriptions of the homes, gardens, etc. were beautifully written. It was a sweet book. Great beach read.
