My Reviews
Although this was a suspends well written page turner, the characters and circumstances were far fetched, particularly to anyone who lived through the Cuban Missile Crisis.
Great intro to Carib history, island culture, & tropical beauty of the Caribbean all wrapped up in an engaging little mystery/drama with colorful characters. Enjoyable and informative reading!
Primary source histories in narrative, novel form. Riveting!
This near epic story of two Japanese families in Tokyo takes their lives from prior to WW2 into the 1960's. Beautifully and gracefully depicted, the book starts rather slowly until midway the struggles of the younger generation to adapt and survive in the new world order draw one in to the point of addiction. Gorgeous well developed characters and an education in cross cultural East-West mores awaits! Those of us who found it slow in the beginning were glad we had persisted to the end!
Very empathetic description of the lives of two women, one black, one white, on opposite poles of the social hierarchy caught in parallel struggle and yearning for identity and freedom in pre Civil War society. Exceptionally well written and difficult to put aside.
