My Reviews
Pro...Really nailed the 50's brought me right back to that time; the events seem far-fetched but knowing it is based on a true story helped to put it in perspective; many themes that resonated with me; mother daughter relationships, death, family dynamics, coming of age angst, first love and on and on...all skillfully handled by the author
Con...So many characters it was hard at first to keep it all straight and the short bursts of news articles interspersed among the different characters "voices" or stories was distracting at first...but all in all, it was a good read though for an adult offering seemed a bit "juvenile" at times...
Though a bit technical...ok a lot technical...it was an interesting read and a fascinating look into the times, history and into the family of the Wrights...I really liked it.....
It was boring...and although it is a classic and well-written it was torturous to get through
MUCH shorter than the original Emma...very funny in spots more enjoyable to read....
A lovely, poetic, thought provoking short read about the Japanese mail order brides...Couldn't put it down, cried during a great deal of it and read it again after I finished to be sure I didn't miss any of the story....
Absolutely loved this book...It was a funny, sad, insightful, thought provoking testament to the inherent goodness of people and the ability to impact another life as well as a reminder that we can never judge another till we have a walked a mile in their shoes... A WONDERFUL read!
