My Reviews
This book is a deceptively easy read. The key to understanding the author is in each of the stories and we had to re-read the book to see the clever commentary. Look for the outlines.
This is a highly personal view of the "hillbilly" culture as described by someone who has achieved spectacularly beyond his culture's expectations. It is a viewpoint that is rarely found in literature and is moving for those who can empathize with the disruption and pain that a child growing up in that culture may experience.
I had read this first installment the year before but found everything about this book to be forgettable except the resolve not to read anything else by this writer.
This book takes the reader on a road trip to find out what happens at the end of the road. The themes in this book can generate good discussions. The book is well written if predictable. I question whether the author has written a genuinely woman's voice.
