My Reviews
Our group really enjoyed this novel. We all loved the characters and felt that the shift in time did not really detract from the plot. The language was magical, description just jumped off the page and the images created were outstanding.
Our group enjoyed reading the book but did not really like the book as a whole. It was very dark in places and unpleasant in others. We had one member who could not finish it. All the others enjoyed trying to find out what was truth and what wasn't.
Returning a young girl to her white family after 4 years with the Kiowa Indians, Capt, Kidd discovers life is not as set as he'd thought it was. This is a small, magical book with great depth of feeling. We watch the old timer slowly blossom back to life as he matches wits and wills with his young charge. I found this book both inspiring and amusing. There is a realness to the relations of the characters and it steady, even pace is both compelling and restful.
