My Reviews
The treatment of men and women during the Occupation is unbelievably sad. But the power of the woman's human spirit is unbelievable. It's an amazing book, exhausting and inspiring at the same time.
The book has many different parts to it and it keeps your attention all the way through....especially at the end. One of our members just looked for a high rating of a fiction book and chose this one! We try to alternate between fiction and non-fiction each month.
These women were incredible-so intelligent and the support behind the space race, but never given credit for all they did. The book was more historical and a little technical. Most in our book club had a hard time with that, but saw the overwhelming story in what these women did in spite of so many obstacles. Most of us also saw the movie, which was only represented in the very last portion of the book, and even for it being based on a true story, many liberties were taken by the script-writer of the movie to make the points.
In our club, most were driven by what they knew from the movies. Still, amazing women in a very tough era.
