My Reviews
There are too many other great books to choose from for a discussion. Our book club found it worthwhile reading but wouldn't recommend it.
The behavior of the parents in this true story is so bizzare. It's amazing that the author turned out to be as normal and successful as she is.
Several members of our book club thought the book was tedious and slow moving in places. A couple of us (me included) thought it was a wonderful book.
I now have a better understanding of Nicholas Sparks' writing. This was a beautiful and tragic story of his family's life. I believe Nicholas Sparks is a very remarkable person.
This book is written in the form of a diary by Sarah. Her difficult life is beautifully recorded in her own uneducated words. It's a great story.
This is one of the best books I have ever read.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It handled serious problems yet still was amusing.
This was a terribly sad story told from the point of view of each major character. The ending was shocking. Our book club enjoyed it and thought it was very thought provoking.
I enjoyed the book but would not recommend it for another book club to read. It was just another predictable murder/mystery story. It was more interesting for our book club because the story is set in Minneapolis and St. Paul which is not far from where we live.
Like the title says - fragments of a young Chinese girl's life. It didn't tell much of a story. One of the members of our book club thought the author was on drugs when she wrote it.
The main character, Greg Mortenson, is a phenomenal person. He has started several schools in Pakistan. I agree completely with his message: the best way to fight terrorism is to educate the children instead of bombing them. I think this book should be required reading for every member of Congress. The book isn't an easy read but definitely worth reading.
