My Reviews
I loved this book! There is a little mystery at the end of the book so you don’t know how the two stories are actually connected, till the end.
I love the strong characters of the women. Going back and forth from the 1020’s to the current time made the book interesting to me. I’ll bring this book up to our book club for a future selection.
Loved this book that Kya turned out to be a strong woman under the circumstances of her early years.
I loved the twist near the end of the book. Caught me off guard but I loved that it was not easy to guess what was going to happen. Good Mystery.
I was interested from the first page learning about the 2 main characters.
The characters had a lot to go through during WWII and love, betrayal and hardships are through out this book. I love that Ms.Harmel blended the past with the present and weaved a beautiful story that kept me interested through every page.
Loved this book but couldn't get into it at the beginning. Very slow and could cut some of the pages out but once they got into the play and then meeting Frank,.....it got a lot better. Hang in there if you are reading it!
The author sets this book in the Dust Bowl time period and the trials and tribulations this family endure. Also, the trek to California for a better life and how that was an illusion for a mother and her family.
Loved how it was written in the 2 different time periods and loved how the characters were developed. It's a love story but with a lot of grief for several characters.
I loved that by the end of the book you knew what happened to all of the characters!
It's up to you to decide the ending....Our Book Club had a fantastic debate and discussion on this book with different view points from several.
It's never taken my 12 days to read a historical fiction novel. This book was 460 pages and I almost put it down. But the last 200+ pages finally got me engaged in the book. A lot of questions that you could come up with if this was for a book club. I would not read this book again but I did like it be the end.
Creepiness happiness to ordinary people.
