My Reviews
I had no idea that leprosy was treated this way 100 years ago. I don't know what I enjoyed more, the characters or the history. Plenty to discuss!
The Dr. Pennie Book Club read and reviewed The Missionary. All agreed that it was a good read, but did not have enough depth to be a good discussion book for a book club. The character development was good, and the members each picked different favorite characters. All agreed that it was fast paced and an easy read. Many expressed that they did not know what was going on in Venezuela, and found the book very informative. Most would recommend the book to others.
One might think that this is a silly book. It is anything but. First, only an excellent writer can tell an interesting story through just postal letters. Not only is this a good story with very good character development, it provides information about the German Occupation that we never knew before.
I loved the way the author alternated the narrative with the science behind it. This kept the book from being too dry, or too dramatic.
One of the best books I've read.
