My Reviews
The book could have been good. They needed a ghost writer that could have taken all the emotions in this book to a much higher level. It’s too bad, really, because people will dismiss this book because it comes across as boring, due to they style of writing.
I’m on the fence about this book. The author contradicts herself in a few places. But, one must remember that she suffered severe emotional trauma, so her memories might be contradictory.
I did not expect to like this book as much as I did. It drew me in and I kept wanting to read more and more. At the end, it became a bit tiresome and made me wonder if this book was about her and the names she could drop or about her son and his experiences.
Having recently travelled to Havana, I wish had been able to read this book before I went, just to understand more about the countryâ??s history. It was well written and at the end, you hanker for more.
Just wow. Having learned virtually nothing about WWII history in school, this book was an education of itself for me. I still get sick to my stomach, thinking about what these poor people had to endure, if they even managed to survive. I have a whole new respect for anyone involved in WWII after reading this book.
It took so long to read this book. I was afraid I would not finish it before the next book club meeting. It never managed to grab my interest. I was reading the chapters just to finish the book. The idea of the book is a good one, but for some reason I never really could enjoy it. It is of epic length.
I could not put this book down! It grabbed my with the first chapter and I kept reading and reading. At the end, I was disappointed in how some of the lose ends were tied up, but overall, this is one of the best reads we’ve chosen in the book club.
This was a very well written book. A story about the “throw-away” people of our society. It captivates and pulls you into the life of a young girl who must learn how to survive completely on her own. A must read, in my opinion.
I absolutely loved this book. I learned things I probably never would have know, due to the subject matter. I did not see the “turning point” coming in the story. At first I was irritated (shades of who killed JR Ewing ran through my mind), but then I really got interested no into the subject. I could hardly put the book down.
Loved this book! A grumpy old man who thinks his life is over discovers it is not, thanks to a kaleidoscope of caring neighbors. The American version of the
movie, A Man Called Otto, staring Tom Hanks stays fairly true to the story. A feel-good story about the everyday lives of neighbors who become friends.
A ok read. Our book club reads one book from this series during the holiday season so that we have some light reading when we are all so busy. This is the second book in this series. It has become somewhat predictable. There never seems to be guests at this beautiful bed and breakfast, so I am wondering how it is managing to stay in business. But for a light read, itâ??s fine. Would be a good beach read, but be aware it is set in December.
This was a very interesting topic. The story line was original. I enjoyed reading the book. It gives one pause to stop and think about choices you have made in your life.
I did not care for this book. It is difficult to follow the characters and hard to understand the underlying story.
Our future is closer than we think. AI is here and will become so integrated in our lives that we won’t know what is human and what is machine. And genetic modification … a little unsettling. Well written and kept me reading.
I loved this book. The story was different, but drove home the fact that most women would do anything for their child. It kept my attention and the science-fiction aspect of the story was thought-provoking.
This book really makes you stop and think. It is well written and keeps your attention.
I didn’t hate this book, but I didn’t love it, either. It was an easy read, though.
This book was absolutely hilarious. It could be decisive because it is political fiction. It kept me laughing. The plot was rather silly, but that didn’t seem to matter much. Easy, quick read.
