My Reviews
This book was spellbinding. My book group loved it and talked about wanting to share it with their friends, daughters, and mothers. One learns so much about Chinese culture and tradition in the 19th century. Lisa See's description of the foot-binding process was horrific and it wasn't all that long ago that foot-binding was being done!. We all became emotionally involved with the two main protagonist's (Lily and Snowflower)lives. This was one of the best books we've read in the group.
The book was enlightening for all club members - the experiences of a southern black girl in the 30's/40's. The racism she had to endure was heartbreaking.
A wonderful reflection of Nicholas Sparks' life, retelling the joys and sorrows of his life. Quite a roller coaster ride. A great read for Sparks' fans.
This was a powerful book. The young man is uprooted at 7 years of age due to the brutal attack of his village. He walks for years and is so strong in spirit. The book captivated me. One of the best books I've read in a long time.
Was a good read with a surprising ending for me since I had never read anything about Frank Lloyd Wright. Now I want to read THE WOMEN, a new book about ALL the women in Wright's life.
Garrison Keillor's well developed characters come alive in this very funny novel. There are many hilarious scenes that are still vivid in my mind.
