My Reviews
This book is timely and currently has many movies, made for TV movies, and other books for supplemental information. It is a factual accounting of the history of the Mormon's and how they came to be, their beliefs, their doctrine, and an acurate accounting of the cases of violence and poligamy to date. It stimulates a lot of conversation both political, religious and personal.
This is a quirky and enjoyable read about some very deep and disturbing issues - death, grief, childlessness, unwanted pregnancy, culture clashes, expectations and healthy doses of reality. It is a breath of fresh air when the characters choose to open themselves up to the ride of life and people outside of their own experience and look for the commonness within - the shared journey's of humankind. Acceptance and open-mindness with a dash of great judgement.
This book moved everyone in our group. There were even a few who said they did not like the book, then to discover that the reason was because it touch many issues that were yet unresolved in their own life. One cannot read this book without being touch in several ways by this brutally honest but divinely written dissection of a woman's journey through the issues that touched, shaped, and tried to define her life. It highlights every woman's common journey just through different circumstances. Meredith Hall is an extraordinary wordsmith for those in love with the construction and blending of thoughts, feelings and words.
