My Reviews
sometimes slow, but always holds your attention
Marisa de los Santos' writing style is a delight!
We all have lists, whether on paper or in our minds. This book caused me to remember my mental list and the things I once promised myself I would do someday. Some things I once thought impossible to achieve may actually happen one day, if not to me, to someone who understands my ambitions. Jill Smolinski has woven the stories of several lives and created a complex view of real life - sometimes tragic, sometimes wonderfully funny.
It's one of those situations - those things happen to other people, people not as good as I am - and then, it happens. This is a story of a mother's determination to save her daughter. Heart-wrenching and thought-provoking.
Dianna Gabaldon does it again! Dragonfly continues the saga of time-traveler Claire and her larger-than life hero, Jamie.
Beautiful, colorful descriptions of the brutal life of in Scotland in the 1700s interspersed with Claire's life in the 1940s-1960s. At almost 1000 pages, a long book - but one that reads so well that I wished it wouldn't end!
A mesmerizing story full of adventure, I couldn't put this book down. It made me happy, somehow. The end was fantastic - perfect! I want to read it again.
Our club enjoyed the book. It created a lively discussion of the overwhelming psychological issues created in situations like Cal's.
