One of my favorites..

Oh Father Tim and the whole town are so wonderful and so warm. I read the whole series more than once. I love the way you feel when you read this book, and you think you know all the people as your neighbors. If you have ever lived in a small town, you will enjoy this book. It is so "small town USA" and exactly like the town that I grew up in Illinois. To all who did not get to experience this kind of childhood, I am sorry.
I love the way that the author could discribe these characters without any explicit language, a rare thing in todays literature.
I have given the first book of this series to all my friends who are looking for a good read and I have never had one complaint. They beg for more..and ask where they can get the next book.
This is a good choice to discuss because the characters are so different and yet so alike. Everyone seems to gets different perceptions when they read this book and it is fun to see what others find that I might miss. Jan Karen is quite a writer and I hope she changed her mind and give us more of Mitford or something as welcoming..Great book!

Boring, Inspiring, Slow
A Good book to learn what kind of person you are and what you are willing to settle for in life.

This is a hard book to get into until about chapter 3, then I could not put it down. I loved the way she took charge of her life and found out exactly who she was. She was very unhappy in her marriage and could have just stayed depressed and unhappy but instead she struggled to find her way and what a journey she had. (Made me want to visit each place and to maybe get more depth in my life.) I think everyone who reads this book will learn some details of their own life that they were somehow unaware of. Good discussion material.
Not a book for someone who only likes a light read. Our club loved it and watched her to Oprah. There really was a guy from Texas and he was on the show with her.

The German Bride: A Novel by Joanna Hershon

Book club winners!! Thanks again.

This book was sort of slow in the start and a little hard to follow, but once Eva started her trip across America to Santa Fe, I got very interested her life and what she was all about. Eva was a very disturbed and lonely woman that made this trip to America thinking everything would be better and found that not to be the case. She was so protected in Germany and lived a life of refinement that was not offered her once she arrived in America. The long trying trip, the old hut she lived in, the loss of 4 babies, each would be hard to swallow, but then the husband was not the sweet caretaker she thought she was marrying once they arrived either.
I personally liked this book and lived her life right along with her. A few of the characters were not as developed as I would have liked but over all, I did like the story line. We had a lively discussion at club tonight. Four members liked it very well and 4 said it was OK..

What a great book. I could not stop reading once I open the first page. I thought the characters were so fully developed and I hate to loose them when the story ended. I think this would appeal to anyone wanting a good book to enjoy and also learn more about Light Houses.

Gone Girl

Wow so many twists and turns that I had to keep reading. This is great for book club as everyone has a different opinion of what happened and why. I really enjoyed this book although it was different that most I read. I would recommend this book for a long weekend at the beach.

What a good book for discussion. Our club almost went over a hour just with everyone's opinions. All enjoyed the book but I was amazed how each person got something different out of this story.

Oh my what a story. I love a book that keeps me on the edge of my seat, even when I loose sleep just reading on. I listened to my Kindle while walking, read at the Dr's office, read into the night until I was at the end. No spoiler alert but everyone assumed they knew what was coming next, when in fact it changed course.. Good writing and I will watch for her next book..

The Fault in our stars

What a beautifully written love story, sad but so real. We love everyday books that we can relate to and this is one for our club. Who does not have someone in their life, who has been ill and need support? Everyone related personal feeling like no other book review. Everyone liked the book and wish they could do something for the main character. Good writer and love how supportive the family was.

Moloka'i

Beautiful story and the club felt we learned so much about the topic that no one really knew the details of this illness. So informative with a beautiful story so well written. When this book was chosen, I heard oh's and on no's...but everyone really loved the book in the end. It was picked as one of our favorite's that year and they still bring up some details from time to time. What a writer. I will try to watch for the next one by this author.

Still Alice

What a book for a club in a senior development...Scary, very informative on a personal level knowing maybe one of us could go through this. Just pray for a cure soon as this disease is so dreadful. We all love the book though and Alice's journey. Beautifully written with care and thoughtfulness throughout. Loved the book.
