My Reviews
This a great book for book clubs to get an open dialogue up and running. The many nuances of Amish vs. English life helped us to have a fascinating and pulsating group conversation. Facilitator suggestion: The reader’s guide that is the back of the book is too long. Make sure to break up the questions into manageable discussion points.
This is the first time Jodi disappointed me. I had this book figured out from the beginning and felt it was a cop out. She could have removed several elements of the book and it would have been a more interesting read.
The language in this book was magnificent. The story is complex but the language and emotion is simple and earthy. This book is a must read for all book lovers. The melody of language will hold the reader enthralled until the very last note.
It is rare that a book envokes enough emotion and dialogue that all the bookclub members loved it. As one member told us, she actually called in sick so that she could finish the book before our meeting.
