Heartbreaking story about a woman's self-diagnosis of Alzheimer’s. Worth the effort to read, just have a tissue handy - you are guaranteed to cry.
Poorly written in an ethnic/African-American voice by a white woman. I heard the author interviewed on MPR/NPR and all of the hype around this book. The story had real potential, but was very disappointing.
Inspiring story of one man's efforts to better the world - one school building at a time. What truly thrills me about this book is that I remember the author from our youth at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Roseville, MN. He was wonderful then, but he can add to his resume that he was/is a Nobel Peace prize candidate. ZOUNDS!!
Wonderful story about the trials and triumphs of the citizens of the Guernsey Island during the German occupation in WWII. Nice character creation and amazing choice of language. GOOD BOOK!!
Good book, but I preferred "The Audacity of Hope" for inspirational material. Not bad for a first effort...
Interesting though sad memoir of this young woman's childhood. So sad that her parents were not helped with their mental health issues, but am grateful that the author survived/thrived in her adulthood. Saddest part of the book, was when they landed in the Appalachian mountains and lived in such harsh conditions...
