My Reviews

Suite Francaise by Irene Nemirovsky

Dark, Confusing, Difficult
Was not what I expected and was somewhat of a difficult read but interesting selection nevertheless because of the circumstances surrounding its preservation.

Most ladies in our club thought that this book was a "hard read" and some didn't finish reading it. It was difficult to get into and wasn't the most interesting book. However, those of us who read it were glad that we did and the book actually made for very good discussion. NOTE: It helped to know ahead of time that the book contains two separate and very distinctly different novels. Not knowing this before reading was a bit confusing to some in our group.

Playing for Pizza by John Grisham

Fun, Optimistic, Interesting
Italy, Food, & Football...and not much else

I haven't read much of Grisham over the past several years and guess I was just expecting something quite different. This book really failed to hold my attention because of the lack of relatable characters and dynamic relationships. I finished it only because I kept expecting it to get better, but unfortunately it never did. It was pretty much all about Italian food and football, so if those two things are your cup of tea, then this is the book for you.

Sundays at Tiffany's by James Patterson, Gabrielle Charbonnet

Romantic, Fun, Addictive
Sweet summer read, but not much meat for a good discussion.

This was a pleasant surprise from Patterson. Very easy, quick read that had me smiling all the way through. I was looking for a light love story and it didn't disappoint.

The Wedding Officer: A Novel by Anthony Capella

Romantic, Unconvincing, Adventurous
Delicious blend of characters, food, and history.

Same Kind Of Different As Me by Ron Hall, Denver Moore

Inspiring, Insightful, Life Changing
A life-changer!

A beautiful story of friendship, prejudice, and the far-reaching impact of one woman's personal investment in others. Challenged me to reach out more, judge less, and trust God with the outcome.

Insightful, Interesting, Dramatic
Great book! Beautifully written w/ carefully-chosen, rich words!

The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield

Dramatic, Interesting, Dark
A well-told story that generated great discussion
