I had to watch the movie first just to make sense of the all the characters. Some book club listened to the book and said that was less confusing. I really enjoyed the movie and about halfway through the book started to enjoy it better! Has some nice historical learnings and really gives you a sense of what it was like during that time period.
I would not have finished this book if it hadn’t been my bookclub choice. The subject was interesting but it felt like the author opened up too many cans of worms, or like it was a whole bunch of short stories shoved together. It was difficult to connect with the main character, and some of the situations didn’t seem right for the times.
All in all, I wouldn’t recommend this book.
