The Scandalous Summer of Sissy LeBlanc: A Novel by Loraine Despres
Fun, Romantic, Dramatic
Not what we expected, but still a good read...TSSoSL was definitely not what we expected though it brought up some great discussion in our group. We decided to give the book 3 stars because of the way Despres brought up the various social issues in the book, from abuse to racial.
Though it was the consensus of the group that we probably wouldn't read it again, it was a great book to discuss.
The Book Thief by Markus Zusak
Dramatic, Insightful, Beautiful
Increadibly written and easy to read...Zusak's book is amazing. The way he describes mundane sounds or everyday sights is phenomenal. His writing is quite simply, like poetry and we enjoyed this book very much. Death as the narrator was an interesting choice, and what an unique take on Nazi, Germany.
