My Reviews
Sounded interesting but isn't. Quite disappointing. No plot to keep you interested. I hate not finishing a book, but I don't think I can bear to waste my precious reading time on something I am not all that interested in.
Nearly everyone in the book club couldn't put this book down! Jeannette has a wonderful writing style and such an interesting story to tell. Our discussion of it was also interesting, finding out about others' lives growing up and sharing thoughts about how people can succeed despite dire circumstances.
This is a very interesting book and very relevant to current world affairs. We had a great discussion of why an individual can do what governments can't as well as about international relations, religion and (sort of) politics. The only downside was it was not the most engagingly written book - not a page turner. But the story was good enough to keep me reading.
The lives of Henry and Clare are somewhat ordinary, but throw in the time traveling and the progression of their "relationship" and it's mesmerizing. A great story and lovable characters.
I recommend reading The Glass Castle first, even though this is about what happened before she was born. Jeannette is a wonderful writer and has had an amazing life and interesting family. Sometimes the truth really is stranger than fiction!
