My Reviews
This book provided one of the best discussions had by our reading group.
It has many interesting characters with whom we could discuss the history of the period and the social mores of the time.
The writer relates events of her childhood growing up in rural Georgia. I learned about the long leaf pine vs. the slash pine silviculture of this area plus the woodpecker and Bachman's sparrow which dwell there. Her difficult childhood in poverty with mentally ill relatives makes for an overall depressing read.
Well written and fast moving with characters who will stay in your mind for a long time. Dog lovers will enjoy it and if you don't have one , you will want to get a dog as your best friend.
